What to Do with a Broken Bit

What to Do with a Broken Bit

Tool wear and break is inevitable, especially when engraving high-hardness materials for a long time. When router bits are worn down, the processing depth will certainly not meet the requirement; when router bits breaks, how to ensure the same height two times after changed new engraving tools; when carving high hardness materials, how to go on working? They are all practical problems.

The two common phenomenon can be classified as a question: tools wear to quite severe situation is equivalent to carbide cutter broken state.

So, what to do with a broken bit? We can handle it in the same way:

1.   When we found cnc bit is broken in operation, please suspend or stop running timely;

2.   Check current sequence number, and note down;

3.   Check broken bit position:

If has cutter body, take it out;

4.   Most important, analyze what cause diamond stone tools to break?

You can analyze from the flowing respects:

(1)  The strain on the ball end router bit is increased suddenly;

(2)  The path problem;

(3)  Extra long router bit is shaking too heavy;

(4)  There is nugget in the processing materials;

(5)  Spindle speed is not right;

5.   After analyzing and cnc spindle has stopped rotating, change the broken bit;

(1)  Because replaced manually, there would be a change in Z axis height. You can just use the tool setting block to re-confirm Z direction origin;

(2)  Because there are no change in X and Y direction, so can be ignored;

6.   Input right segment number:

(1)  Find the "Advanced Start" function below the action menu;

(2)  The dialog is asking us to input the starting segment number;

   It is the number which we had noted down after stopped cnc router;

   This number should be a little smaller than that number which we had written down;

   How much smaller needs to be determined by the time when we found broken bit;

   If no change in the tool path, it needs to be ahead a number on the basis of original number;

   If late discovery of broken bit, please lop some numbers;

(3)  EOF(end of file) is default by the ending segment number;

7.   Continue to work:

Please pay attention to reduce the speed, because:

(1)  Broken bit position has severe hardening;

(2)  Stone carving tools need time to be adjusted best;
