How to Select Rake Angle of Cutting Tool?

 

In certain condition, there is one rake angle of cutting tool can make router bits get longest lifetime. This is the reasonable value.

So what is the selection principles?

 

1.    Processing materials:

(1)  For plastic or software work piece, in order to reduce chip deformation, sintered tools wear, and temperature, should adopt big front angle.

(2)  For fragile work piece, to keep slotting cutter have enough strength, and avoid breaking, we suggest small procerite.

(3)  The harder intensity and rigidity of material, the bigger produced cutting force, and more machining heat is.

To prevent breakage and wear of pcb cutting bit, lesser tool rake angle is better.

 

2.    Materials of upcut downcut spiral bit:

While bending strength and impact toughness is lower, lesser rake angle of cutting tool is advisable.

For example, usually:

High speed steel tool > cnc cutting tool > ceramic tools;

 

3.    Manufacturing property:

(1)  Rough machining, especially to continuous working:

Features: with more chip load and heat, have to bear impact load.

To guarantee tool intension, and cooling size, should decrease procerite appropriately;

After the measures of strengthening tool-tip, could also increase to reasonable value.

(2)  Finishing:

To ensure excellent finished surface quality, choose larger value.

(3)  In high-speed milling, small value is desirable.

 

4.    Use large rake to low power and poor process system, to reduce vibration and chip load.

 

5.    Formed cutter: little even zero degree to diminish errors.

 

6.    To numerical control machine, to keep the stability of diamond taper bit, usually adopt small rake angle of cutting tool.
