Tool Clearance Angle

Tool Clearance Angle

Clearance angle is one of the main router cutters parameters. Whether it is reasonable or not directly affects finished surface quality and productivity.

So how to select it?

1.    Small value in the conditions of:

(1)  Rough machining:

Features big cutting thickness, heave load, occur wear both in front and back face.

(2)  Work piece and cnc router engraving bits are in poor rigidity;

Should get small clearance angle, to increase the contact area of flank and work piece, and reduce, even eliminate vibration.

(3)  Sizing tools: such as inside broach, reamer, etc.

To avoid too much changes in the size after regrinding.

(4)  Relieving tool:

For example, formed milling cutter, hob, and so on.

2.    Large value under the conditions of:

(1)  Finish machining or semifinishing: with thin processing depth.

Big merocerite can guarantee surface quality and prolong the lifetime of extra long router bit, such as sintered bits, stone carving tools, and so on.

(2)  Plastic materials with low strength and hardness;

(3)  Cutter with multiple cutting edge;

(4)  Process system with poor rigidity, and easy to appear vibration;

Generally, we can increase relief angle to improve the tool durability, such like carbide cutting tools, and ball nose cutters.

We can also make it less to reduce the cost of resharpening.

(5)  To the cutter with fast feeding speed, should fully consider the difference between working orthogonal clearance and tagging clearance angle.
