5 Demands to Milling Cutter Material
What are the demands to milling cutter material?
It should meet the following requirements.
1. High hardness.
At normal temperature, milling cutter material must have enough hardness to cut into work piece.
Usually, the hardness is 60HRC.
2. High wear resistance.
Especially when need to process a lot, if milling cutter material is not durable, will cause:
(1) Affect finished surface and precision.
(2) For changing diamond stone tools, increase the times of adjusting and presetting sintered bits.
(3) Influence cnc tool life.
3. Good heat resistance.
In cutting, aluminum router bits will generate plenty of heat, especially in very fast speed.
Therefore, it demands milling cutter material must have high heat resistance, to continue cutting in high temperature.
4. High strength and good toughness.
During cutting, single flute cutters should bear great impact and cutting tool vibration, so milling cutter material should have high strength and toughness. Or else, it is easy to be broken and damaged.
5. Excellent technology.
Such as selection of geometrical parameters, shape, size and be with good chip removal.
In normal milling, the most common milling cutter material is high speed steel and high alloy steel.
