To cnc router gantry, superiority or inferiority mainly depends on materials selection and work piece precision.
From materials, cnc router gantry usually has two types: iron and aluminum.
Iron gantry is cheap, but not selected by most manufacturers because of too great weight.
Aluminum gantry is lightweight with high strength, which is today's leading type of cnc router gantry.
Why we select cnc router gantry with light materials?
The reason is simple. As everyone knows that, friction is proportional to pressure.
So, the lighter weight, the smaller friction is.
The smaller damage to motion transmission device, the smaller resistance to stepper motor is. So the faster movement speed will be (brought along carbide tool bits, motor, spindle, etc).
Take wood cnc router for example. To many people, the first impression of cnc wood machine is fastness.
Compare wood with aluminum alloy, the breaking strength of wood is several times higher than aluminum alloy under the same weight. It is why woodworking machine is with faster cnc router speed and longer service life.
Of course, if has condition, titanium-magnesium alloy is better.
