How to Reduce Tool Beat
How to Reduce Tool Beat
In processing, if cutter center does not aligned to the rotation center of router spindle, it will cause tool beat. We call that "router bits are rotating but not concentric".
To further understanding, it should be a vertical line when router bit is rotating properly at high speed; if not concentric, it forms in a taper. Then, tool beat will certainly affect machining accuracy, performance and easily cause tool breakage.
So, how to reduce tool beat?
1. First way to reduce tool beat:
(1) We should know clearly, what factors affect tool beat:
① The coordination between cutters and collets;
② Co-operation of collets and nut;
③ Whether china diamond tools are installed correctly;
④ Router Bits Quality itself;
⑤ And so on;
(2) Way to reduce tool beat:
① Pay attention to keeping router collet and screw nut clean; should be no dust;
② The force to install micro end mill should be correct and proper, neither too big nor too little is good;
③ More important, the exserted length should be small;
④ In necessary, should also note cnc spindle speed;
To the materials that has less demand to spindle speed, such as copper, we can reduce tool beat by selecting a reasonable rotation speed;
2. Second way to reduce tool beat while processing:
(1) Why lead to tool beat in machining:
The cutting force in radial has sharpened circular runout.
So, reduce cutting force in radial is an important principle to reduce circular runout;
(2) Solution:
① Use sharp tool:
When machining, sharp carbide end mill cutters have smaller overall cutting force, thus cutting power in radial becoming smaller. In this way, we can reduce tool beat in radial.
② Use strong & powerful ASTECH tools:
a) We can increase tool strength(or tool intensity) by increasing shank diameter;
b) Under the same cutting force in radial, shank diameter increased by 20%, which will reduce cutting force in radial by 50%;
③ Rack face should be smooth:
In processing, smooth rack face can reduce cutting force by decreasing tool-chip friction.
④ Use down cutting in rough machining, or tool life is hard to ensure;
⑤ Use up milling in finish machining:
a) Warm notice: up milling is only used in finish machining;
b) In up milling, the router bits are always pulled to workpiece by cutting direction; so, cutters are more stable when machining;
