Router Bit Types
(Ⅰ)
Router bit types can be classified by shape, materials and tool blade.
1. Router bit types sorted by shape:
(1) Flower cutter:
Most used for carving wood and natural stone.
(2) Sharp cutters among router bit types:
① Main function:
a. Embossment, ornamental line, cutting, 2D carving, 3D relief.
b. To sharp cutting tools with angle, it mainly applies to engrave small characters and fine carving.
Such as beautiful handicrafts, breastplate, delicate department brands, etc.
② Suitable materials:
Double-color board, ABS, wood, acrylic, PVC.
③ General models:
a. Diameter: 3~6mm;
b. Angle: 20~60 angle;
④ Sharpen router bits types:
Center sharp knife & flat bottom cutter.
⑤ To flat bottom cutter:
a. Parameter:
(a) W1: stands for shank diameter, please set it as required.
Common types: Φ3.175, Φ4, Φ6;
(b) W2: Tool-tip width;
It directly affects engraving performance, so exact value setting is very important.
You can use a high precision ruler for roughly reference.
(c) A: Half angle contained by the two sides, which is of the tool tip part.
For example, set A as 15 if the angle is 30, and so on.
b. Engraving materials:
Double color boards, PVC, organic glass, ABS boards, etc.
c. Cutting materials:
Double-color board, ABS.
d. Use principle:
(a) When carving small characters:
Apply stone cutting tools with smaller value in W2 or A.
(b) To bigger letters:
In order to improve processing speed, bigger carbide cutting bits are better.
(c) Tool section is subject to the narrowest strokes.
(d) In necessary, you can amend stokes by editing node without influencing font effects.
(e) Usually, 30 angle flat bottom router bit is most commonly used for carving breast plates.
(3) Ball cutter among router bit types:
① Applicable materials:
Acrylic, plywood, solid wood, etc.
② Appropriated for:
2D/3D engraving, relief, cutting, etc.
(4) Straight cutter among router bit types:
① Major function:
a. Cutting, 2D engraving, etc.
b. Used principally in cutting plates and engraving large concave-convex word.
c. Straight router bits is more for carving big letters in department brand, so it's also called "Department Brand Cutter"; but its engraving effect seems less than flat end cutter by the same width.
d. To straight knife: the edges of cutting materials is straight.
e. To flat end router cutter: the cutting edge most has a beveling.
The tilt is contingent on cutting tool angle:
The bigger tool angle, the greater edge slope.
② Carving materials:
Double color board, PVC, organic glass, acrylic, ABS boards, MDF, solid wood, hardwood, and so on.
③ Cutting materials:
Two-color plates, ABS.
④ Parameters:
a. W1: the width in the front of cutting edge;
(a) Common width: 2MM, 1.5MM;
(b) Usually set W1 to a little smaller value.
b. H1: blade length;
Warm notice:
To processing materials, the cutting length should be less than blade length; usually, H1 is set to be about 5MM.
