Six Point to Improve Tool Durability

 

According to tool wear theory, the main ways to improve tool durability is:

Increase mechanical abrasion resistance;

Improve router bits anti-corrosion and anti-wear properties.

 

The following is six point to improve tool durability for reference:

 

1.    Surface Heat Treatment to increase tool durability:

By adopting appropriate ways of surface heat treatment, we can change metallic structure, so as to improve surface hardness of metal carving tools, and increase its wear resistance.

 

2.    Permeable technology on enhancing tool durability:

(1)  This approach is to change chemical components of sintered bits surface;

(2)  It's a method of chemical heat treatment to improve abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance;

 

3.    Plating technology to improve tool durability:

(1)  It is a troditional materials protection method.

(2)  With strong adaptability, plating is not limited to the size of workpiece and batch.

(3)  We can electroplate many matrix, like F(iron-based),  FNF(non-iron-based), powder metallurgical products, plastics, graphite, etc.

 

4.    Thermal spraying technology on increasing tool durability:

(1)  This technology adopts the floowing coating materials as heat source:

Gas fuel, liquid fuel, electric arc, plasma arc, and so on.

(2)  Then, heat coating materials (metal, alloy, cermet, oxide, carbide, etc) to melting state or semi-molten state.

(3)  Through high speed air flow, atomize, spray and deposit coating materials to pretreated workpiece surface, and form surface layer with strong adhesion.

 

5.    Coating technology to improve tool durability:

(1)  This technology has developed since the early 1970's.

(2)  It is a kind of surface modification technique on materials.

(3)  Through certain method, tool base is coated with a thin layer of MC (refractory metal carbides) or nonmetallic compound with great wear resistance, which to increase tapered ball end mill:

a)  Service life;

b)  Corrosion resistance;

c)  Anti-oxidation in high temperature.

 

6.    To increase tool durability, we should also pay attention to:

(1)  First, select right diamond router bits:

(2)  Then, it's better to go running-in process through a period of time;

Especially for the first time, run cnc router at idle or low feed speed.

(3)  If router bits wear out, replace new flute cutter timely.
