    (Ⅱ)

     

    Last time, we introduced tool wear types.

    Today, let's go on with the types of tool wear.

     

    5. The Fifth types of tool wear –

    Diffusion wear:

    (1)  At higher temperature and pressure, some elements of cutting tools materials (such as tungsten, Co, Ti, etc), will diffuse into work piece materials;

    It will:

    ①      Change chemical composition of cutting surface;

    ②      Reduce diamond tools intensity;

    ③      Lower wear resistance;

    ④      Come into being diffusion wear;

     

    (2)  Diffusion wear is a major reason of tool wear at high temperature cutting;

     

    6. The Sixth types of tool wear –

    Phase-transformation wear;

    (1) As the temperature grows, metallographic structure will change once reach phase transition temperature;

    It results in:

    ①   Lower hardness;

    ②   Reduce abrasion resistance;

    ③   Lose cutting performance;

    ④   Happen phase transition wear;

    (2) Usually, phase transition wear is the main cause that high speed steel cutting tools wear out;

     

    7. The Seventh types of tool wear –

    Heatchecking wear:

    (1)  Every cutter tooth of milling cutter is cutting discontinuously and periodically;

    (2)  From idle running into cutting, there's a wide variation in the temperature;

    It can be said that, milling bits suffer one heat shock into cutting every time;

    (3)  To ball nose cutters, the blade inside will introduce a very high level of stresses and cracks under thermal shock, then cause heatchecking wear;  

     

    8. The Eighth types of tool wear –

    Thermal wear:

    While cutting, the cutting heat caused by metal severe plastic deformations and friction, reduces the hardness of tool blade, then will lose cutting performance and cause wear;

    This tool wear type is called thermal wear;

     

    9. There are also some other types of tool wear, such as: oxidative wear, thermochemistry wear, electrochemical wear, etc.
