What Factors Affect Machined Surface Roughness?

Machined surface roughness is the basic unit constituting finished surface geometric parameters.

It mainly influenced by the following factors.

1.    The element of cnc tools:

(1)  From geometric aspect:

It includes shape and angle, especially corner radius, deflections, cnc cutting parameters, etc.

(2)  Edge-grinding quality:

The smoothness of rake face, flank face, and blade will directly influence machined surface roughness.

(3)  Tool materials:

     If large affinity between cutter and processing metal radicles, the work piece will be easy to bond spiral bit, and produce built up edges and scales.

While separating, also form additional unevenness.

     Consequently, serious bonding and friction lead to big roughness;

Otherwise the opposite is.

2.    Cutting condition:

(1)  Cnc cutting speed:

     While processing plastic material, it has very significant impact on built up edges and scales.

Low rate is easy to cause flake's burr;

Slow to medium speed is easy to form scraps.

     Hence, fast velocity can not only improve productivity, but also reduce unevenness.

(2)  Feeding:

Decrease feed amount can better machined surface roughness.

(3)  Carving depth:

(4)  Cutting fluid:

The cooling and lubricating function can decrease friction and temperature, to reduce deformation.

Therefore, it is beneficial to the accuracy of engraving curved surface.

3.    Work piece materials:

Generally, the better toughness, the bigger tendency of plastic deformation is.

So, the effects of work piece material on unevenness, is relative to its metallographic organization state.

4.    It requires process system have enough motion precision and rigidity.

Such as, have strong vibration resistance.
